Dear CMS families,

Charleston Montessori had an asbestos inspection conducted by Pinnacle Environmental Consultants in November 2015.  Pinnacle inspected the school looking for materials that potentially may contain asbestos, then collected samples, analyzed them and developed an Inspection report and management plan, as required by the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA).   This plan has been submitted to the West Virginia Bureau for Public Health and is currently in effect.

The a copy of the plan is kept in hard copy at the school office for review during school hours,  or a digital copy of the plan can be emailed upon request to scoffield@charlestonmontessori.com.

In summary, Pinnacle environmental analysis did not find any asbestos containing building materials (ACBM).  Materials such as fire doors, gaskets, electrical wire sheathing, firebrick, boiler muds, terrazzo floors, etc., which were not sampled, should be assumed to contain asbestos.  The major accessible assumed ACBM were the 9 inch by 9 inch bathroom floor tiles.   Because the assumed ACBM’s were in good condition, Pinnacle’s report did not recommend any further actions to be taken at this time, other than monitoring on 6 month intervals as required by the AHERA act.  In the event of any renovation further sampling may be required.

Please contact me with questions or concerns.

Warm regards,

Jennifer McGee, Co-director
